The story begins inside Van Helsing’s heavily protected lair. A mysterious intruder breaks through Liesel’s security and reaches one of her most dangerous possessions. The target is nothing less than the remains of Dracula himself.
Dracula’s bones are stolen, immediately creating a serious threat. Liesel does not yet understand who took them or what the thief intends to accomplish. The mystery gives the opening chapter a strong connection to the darker history surrounding the Van Helsing name.
Two weeks later, Liesel raids a pawn shop operated by demons. She quickly demonstrates why supernatural creatures have good reason to fear her. Guns, specialized equipment, physical skill, and holy water are all part of her arsenal.
The confrontation eventually leads Liesel to a demon named Oliver. He possesses the journal of Elizabeth Van Helsing. The discovery is unexpected, but the journal could provide valuable answers about Liesel’s family history.
That family connection becomes increasingly important as the story develops. Liesel has spent years fighting creatures tied to legends and nightmares. This time, the danger reaches directly into the legacy of both Van Helsing and Dracula.
Jonathan Harker and Mina also enter the story. Their names create another direct connection with the mythology of Dracula. The couple arrives hoping to visit their friend Liesel, but their trip quickly becomes dangerous.
After an encounter with a mugger, a mysterious woman suddenly appears. She kills the attacker and then turns her attention toward Jonathan and Mina. The woman is revealed as Dracula’s Daughter, establishing the major threat behind the series.
The first issue wisely builds toward the eventual confrontation instead of delivering it immediately. Readers see what both women are capable of before they finally meet. That approach gives the coming battle more weight.
Raven Gregory was already familiar to readers of supernatural and horror comics when this series appeared. His writing fits Liesel’s world of monsters, family secrets, and violent confrontations. Allan Otero brings those ideas to life with detailed action and dramatic horror imagery.
Collectors also have several reasons to appreciate this first issue. It launches the complete five issue story and begins another major chapter for Liesel Van Helsing. It also connects modern comic storytelling with characters inspired by classic Dracula mythology.
