Description

This Action Comics #1 is the 1987 Nestle Quik promotional reprint featuring the classic 10 cent cover design. The Nestle Quik Bunny advertisement on the back cover helps identify this special promotional edition. It is not an original 1938 copy, but it remains a fascinating collectible connected to Superman history.

This edition reprints the complete Superman story from the legendary first issue. The comic presents the character much as readers first encountered him in 1938. Jerry Siegel wrote the story, while Joe Shuster supplied the artwork that established Superman’s earliest visual identity.

The story moves quickly from one dramatic event to another. Superman races to prevent the execution of an innocent woman by bringing crucial evidence to the governor. He also intervenes when a violent husband threatens his wife. These early scenes establish Superman as a champion who acts directly when ordinary people are in danger.

Clark Kent and Lois Lane also play important roles. Clark takes Lois on a date, but trouble begins when thug Butch Matson approaches her. Clark deliberately appears timid because he must protect his secret identity. Later, Matson and his men kidnap Lois. Superman responds by pursuing their automobile and tearing into the vehicle with his incredible strength.

The story then sends Clark toward another assignment involving international conflict. His investigation leads him to Washington, where Superman confronts lobbyist Alex Greer. Greer is connected to an effort involving Senator Barrows and growing pressure for American involvement in a European war. These scenes show how different the earliest Superman adventures could feel from later superhero stories.

For collectors, the historical material is only part of the appeal. This 1987 edition also represents an unusual piece of Superman promotional history. It was produced decades after the original appearance but deliberately preserved the famous Action Comics #1 cover image and 10 cent presentation.

The paper cover gives the comic a distinctly vintage appearance. That construction also means surviving examples often show handling, discoloration, or edge wear more readily than comics with heavier covers.

The Quik Bunny advertisement on the reverse is especially important for identifying this edition. It separates the comic from many other Action Comics #1 reproductions issued over the decades. The combination of Superman history and recognizable 1980s advertising gives this reprint its own nostalgic character.

Most importantly, collectors can experience the groundbreaking Superman material created by Siegel and Shuster without confusing this promotional edition with the extraordinarily rare 1938 original. It is an accessible piece of comic history with a memorable story behind its production.
