Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #1 E launches an enormous crossover with an impressive Rafael Albuquerque foil cover. Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman dominate the center of the composition. Yet even these legendary heroes appear small beside Godzilla and Kong.
The foil treatment gives this edition extra visual impact. Fiery orange light surrounds the heroes while the two Titans loom above them. Albuquerque captures the impossible scale of the confrontation perfectly. Godzilla stares down from one side while Kong roars from the other.
This 2023 issue begins the collision between the Justice League and Legendary’s MonsterVerse. Writer Brian Buccellato wastes little time establishing the size of the coming disaster. Christian Duce handles the interior artwork and gives the opening chapter a cinematic feeling.
The story begins with Clark Kent preparing for an important moment with Lois Lane. Clark plans to propose during a romantic dinner above the Daily Planet. That private moment is suddenly shattered when Godzilla appears in Metropolis.
The issue then moves back twelve hours to reveal how everything went wrong. Superman is preparing to take some personal time while his fellow heroes discuss his plans. He even handles an encounter with Titano before beginning his evening with Lois.
Meanwhile, Lex Luthor and the Legion of Doom have their own scheme underway. Their target is Superman’s Fortress of Solitude. Lex intends to use technology there as part of a plan against the Justice League.
Toyman creates the problem that changes everything. His actions trigger the Fortress defenses and disrupt the Legion’s escape. Instead of completing their plan, the villains find themselves transported across realities.
They arrive on Skull Island.
That discovery brings Kong and the larger MonsterVerse directly into the story. The villains quickly realize they are surrounded by creatures unlike anything they expected. Gorilla Grodd has an especially memorable reaction when he encounters the enormous Kong.
The situation grows even more dangerous when the barrier between worlds is disturbed. Godzilla ultimately reaches Metropolis at the worst possible moment. Superman now faces a threat unlike the usual villains he handles with ease.
The final setup promises the confrontation readers purchased the series to see. Superman launches himself toward Godzilla as the King of the Monsters towers over Metropolis.
For collectors, this first issue carries strong crossover significance. It begins a seven issue event combining major superhero icons with two legendary movie monsters. The concept brought together Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Godzilla, Kong, and many more characters.
The series also became a strong seller after its debut. Early issues sold through their initial supply and returned to print. That response helped establish the crossover as more than a novelty release.
Cover E adds another collecting angle. Rafael Albuquerque is known for dramatic layouts and expressive action. His design here immediately communicates the scale of the event without needing a single battle scene from inside.
The reflective foil finish makes the orange lighting especially effective in person. Superman rises through the center while Batman and Wonder Woman prepare below him. Godzilla and Kong frame the entire scene like unstoppable forces closing in.
This is an excellent modern collectible for Justice League, Godzilla, Kong, and Rafael Albuquerque fans. It also represents the beginning of one of the most unusual superhero crossovers of the 2020s.
