Description

Hawkgirl #1 E launches Kendra Saunders into a new solo adventure during the Dawn of DC era. This edition is the scarce 1:50 retailer incentive variant featuring cover art by Mateus Manhanini. It is officially designated as Cover E.

Released in 2023, the issue begins a six issue series written by Jadzia Axelrod. Amancay Nahuelpan provides the interior artwork, with Adriano Lucas supplying the colors. The series gives Kendra a chance to establish a new direction after years of team adventures.

Kendra begins the story looking for a fresh start in Metropolis. The Justice League has disbanded, leaving her without the familiar structure that once defined much of her heroic life. Moving to a new city gives Kendra an opportunity to decide what she actually wants.

That adjustment is not easy. Kendra still carries the emotional weight of earlier adventures and relationships. Familiar heroes check in on her, but she remains determined to find her own path.

The superhero action soon returns. Strange threats connected to powerful forces begin intruding on Kendra’s new life. Her Nth metal wings and weapons become especially important as the larger mystery develops.

The issue also introduces Vulpecula, a mysterious new villain with plans involving Nth metal. Her story reaches back decades and immediately adds an unsettling element to the series. This is the beginning of a conflict that drives the larger six issue storyline.

Another important element is the arrival of Galaxy. Taylor Barzelay previously appeared in Galaxy: The Prettiest Star, also written by Axelrod. Hawkgirl #1 brings Galaxy into the mainstream DC Universe for the first time.

That appearance gives this issue legitimate collector significance beyond simply beginning a new Hawkgirl series. It connects Kendra with a newer character while expanding Galaxy’s place within regular DC continuity.

Nahuelpan gives the interior pages plenty of movement and personality. The artwork handles both Kendra’s quieter personal moments and the larger superhero sequences. Axelrod keeps the focus on Kendra as someone trying to build an identity beyond membership on a famous team.

The Mateus Manhanini cover makes this particular copy especially appealing. Manhanini presents Kendra without her helmet while she holds the Hawkgirl headpiece in front of her. Brilliant gold light reflects across the armor and wings, creating a striking portrait of the woman behind the costume.

Collectors should also note the distribution ratio. This Cover E edition was offered as a 1:50 retailer incentive. Its barcode suffix of 00151 matches the identified Mateus Manhanini incentive edition.

Hawkgirl #1 E combines several attractive collecting angles. It begins Kendra Saunders’ 2023 solo series, introduces Vulpecula, and features Galaxy’s first mainstream DC Universe appearance. The limited Manhanini cover adds another strong reason for variant collectors to seek it out.

For Hawkgirl collectors, Dawn of DC fans, Galaxy collectors, and modern incentive variant hunters, this is one of the more distinctive editions of the first issue.
