Description
X-Men #32, published in 1994, closes a major chapter in one of Psylocke’s most complicated identity stories. The issue features “Soul Possessions Part Two: The Leopards and the Cats.” Fabian Nicieza writes the story, with Andy Kubert providing the pencils. Matt Ryan handles the inks.
The mystery surrounding Betsy Braddock, Kwannon, and Revanche finally receives important answers here. Psylocke confronts Spiral while searching for the truth about what happened to her. Spiral points Betsy toward the bionic eyes connected to her past. Beast and Banshee then help recover information stored within them.
Those recordings expose more of the events that transformed Psylocke’s life. Matsuo Tsurayaba, the Mandarin, Spiral, and Nyoirin all become pieces of the larger puzzle. Betsy discovers how her existence became tangled with Kwannon through manipulated bodies, memories, and identities. These revelations help explain the confusion that surrounded both Psylocke and Revanche.
Psylocke then travels to Japan seeking the final pieces of the truth. There, she discovers that Nyoirin has been killed by Matsuo. She also learns more about the deception surrounding Kwannon and Revanche. Matsuo must confront the grief and guilt connected to everything that happened. Betsy eventually reaches a point where she can begin leaving this painful chapter behind.
That resolution gives X-Men #32 lasting interest for Psylocke collectors. It serves as a major conclusion to the Revanche storyline. It also connects several earlier developments involving Betsy’s transformation and her complicated past. Readers who followed the character through the early 1990s received long awaited answers in this issue.
Andy Kubert’s artwork gives the story the dramatic energy associated with this era of X-Men. His cover places Psylocke and Spiral in a striking display of blades, movement, and danger. It is an unmistakably 1990s image and captures the visual style many collectors associate with the period.
This copy is also the Direct Edition, as shown by the box on the front cover. For collectors building a Psylocke run, an Andy Kubert collection, or a complete X-Men set, issue #32 offers more than attractive artwork. It represents an important turning point in Betsy Braddock’s history and brings one of her most complicated storylines toward a conclusion.
