Rogue delivers one of the issue’s most memorable moments. She absorbs the abilities of Wolverine, Colossus, and Nightcrawler at the same time. The combination temporarily gives her an incredible collection of mutant powers.
Shadowcat also becomes essential to stopping the satellite. Her phasing ability allows her to attack the threat in a way nobody else can. The X-Men ultimately prevent the satellite from completing its deadly purpose.
The biggest revelation comes from the figure posing as Professor Xavier. He is not Charles Xavier at all. The mysterious being eventually absorbs the false X-Men and transforms into Cerebro.
That reveal gives X-Men #80 added story significance. Cerebro had traditionally been associated with mutant detection and Professor Xavier’s mission. Here, that familiar name becomes something far more threatening.
